Albino Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum albino variant) is a rare, stunning predatory fish prized for its pearly white to golden-pink body and red/golden eyes. It is a color morph of the standard Silver Arowana from the Amazon Basin. They grow rapidly up to 2 inches per month initially. Footprint (length and width) matters more than height since they swim near the surface. Many recommend 2000 – 4000 litre for long-term health and to prevent stress/deformities. A tight-fitting, secure hood is essential—they are powerful jumpers (up to several feet) and can injure themselves. They can be skittish initially—keep the tank in a low-traffic area and approach calmly. Albinos may sometimes have slightly reduced hardiness due to the genetic mutation, but with proper husbandry they match standard Silver Arowana longevity.
TANK SET UP: Longer/wider tanks are better than tall ones (depth ideally at least 2x the fish’s length for easy movement). Larger is preferable for groups. A bare-bottom or minimally decorated large tank often works well for easy maintenance.
MAINTENANCE: High oxygenation and stable conditions are critical—they are sensitive to fluctuations and nitrates. Many keepers do 25–30% once or twice per week, especially with heavy feeding or smaller tanks.
FEEDING: High-quality floating carnivore pellets/sticks (primary for convenience). Shrimp, krill, earthworms, bloodworms, crickets, mealworms, small feeder fish
FEEDING JUVENILE: 2–3 times daily; adults 1x daily or every other day.
TANK MATE: Albino Silver Arowanas are predatory and will eat anything that fits in their mouth.
Large cichlids like Oscars, Jaguar Cichlids, or Peacock Bass.
Bottom dwellers: Large Plecos, Clown Loaches (in groups), Bichirs, or certain stingrays/catfish.
Others: Tinfoil Barbs (large schools), Red Belly Pacu, or similar large peaceful fish.
NOTE: This is a long-term commitment requiring significant space, time, and resources. If you’re setting up for one, prioritize oversizing the tank from the start for the best results.
