Longfin White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys albonubes longfin strain, sometimes sold as Meteor Minnows) are a captive-bred form of the standard White Cloud. Care is essentially the same as the short-fin type, with one extra consideration: their flowing fins are more easily nipped or torn. Longfin fish are slower and more vulnerable.
Peaceful mid-to-top swimmers. Keep them in a proper school so they feel secure and show better colour. Keep the water cool and stable, give them a decent school and swimming room, and they are one of the easiest, longest-lived small fish you can keep.
TANK SET UP: Dark sand or fine gravel, plants around the edges and back, and open mid-to-upper swimming space. Java moss, Java fern, Vallisneria, Crypts, and hornwort all work well in cooler water. Use a lid — they can jump when startled.
IMPORTANT: Avoid prolonged time above 24 °C. — a fan or chiller is useful.
TANK MATE: Good companions (same cool-water, peaceful, non-nippy): other White Cloud varieties, zebra/leopard danios (if not too boisterous), hillstream loaches, small peaceful rasboras, shrimp, and snails.
FILTRATION: A gentle flow is fine; a strong current is not needed.
MAINTENANCE: Ammonia/nitrite: 0 ppm. Nitrate: keep under 20 ppm
FEEDING:
Rotate,
• Quality micro-pellets or crushed flakes (include some plant/algae content)
• Frozen or live daphnia, brine shrimp, and occasional bloodworms
