About Black kuhli loach
Black kuhli loach is a small burrowing kuhli loach originating from leaf-littered forest streams in Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula. In the aquarium it displays natural behaviours when kept in suitable numbers and housed in a well-structured environment that reflects its native habitat.
Care Requirements
Black kuhli loach should be maintained in a mature, well-filtered aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum volume of around 60 litres is recommended, with larger systems preferred where multiple specimens or tank mates are to be kept. D?cor such as driftwood, rocks, and live or artificial plants will provide cover and help reduce stress. Regular partial water changes and good filtration are essential to maintain water quality.
Water Parameters
- Temperature: 24?28?C
- pH: 5.5?7.0
- Water hardness: soft and slightly acidic
Temperament and Tank Mates
Black kuhli loach has a peaceful, secretive bottom-dwelling loach and is well suited to peaceful community aquaria. It should ideally be kept in groups where applicable, which encourages natural behaviour and reduces stress.
Diet
Omnivorous species that accepts quality flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. Feeding should be varied and controlled to prevent overfeeding and maintain good body condition.
Tank Size and Environment
A tank footprint that offers good swimming space along with shaded areas and retreat zones is important for Black kuhli loach. Substrate and d?cor can be selected to complement its natural habitat, using darker substrates and structured hardscape where appropriate. The aquarium should be securely covered, as many species are capable of jumping when startled.
