Yellow Honey Gourami is the gold/yellow colour form of Honey Gourami (Trichogaster chuna), a small, peaceful labyrinth fish from Asia. Males colour up more and have a more pointed dorsal fin. Females stay paler yellow/tan and often show a faint mid-body stripe. They are labyrinth fish: they gulp air at the surface. Leave a small air gap under a tight lid (they can jump) and keep surface flow gentle so they can breathe easily. Strong current stresses them.
TANK SET UP:
Horizontal space matters more than height. Dark sand or fine gravel — makes the gold colour pop. Heavy planting — Java fern, Anubias, Cryptocoryne, water wisteria, hornwort. A planted, dimmer tank makes them bolder and shows better colour.
TANK MATE:
• small tetras (ember, neon, glowlight)
• rasboras
• small peaceful danios
• Corydoras
• bristlenose or other small peaceful catfish
• shrimp (adult honeys may eat very tiny shrimplets)
• other honey gouramis (one male + females is the usual ratio)
Two adult males in a small tank — they often harass each other quietly until one declines
FILTRATION:
Sponge filter or a baffled hang-on-back.
MAINTENANCE:
Ammonia/nitrite 0 ppm; keep nitrate under ~20 ppm. Do weekly 20–30% water changes.
FEEDING:
• frozen/live baby brine shrimp
• daphnia
• cyclops
• occasional bloodworms (some keepers use them sparingly)
Variety keeps colour and condition up. Yellow Honey Gourami will also nibble soft plant matter and biofilm.
