About Flying Fox True (Siamensis) Freshwater Shark

Flying Fox True (Siamensis) Freshwater Shark is a freshwater shark-like cyprinid originating from large rivers and tributaries in Southeast Asia. In the aquarium it displays natural behaviours when kept in suitable numbers and housed in a well-structured environment that reflects its native habitat.

Care Requirements

Flying Fox True (Siamensis) Freshwater Shark should be maintained in a mature, well-filtered aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum volume of around 200 litres is recommended, with larger systems preferred where multiple specimens or tank mates are to be kept. D?cor such as driftwood, rocks, and live or artificial plants will provide cover and help reduce stress. Regular partial water changes and good filtration are essential to maintain water quality.

Water Parameters

• Temperature: 23?27?C
• pH: 6.5?7.5
• Water hardness: soft to moderately hard

Temperament and Tank Mates

Flying Fox True (Siamensis) Freshwater Shark exhibits a territorial semi-aggressive bottom to midwater fish and may defend preferred areas of the aquarium. It is generally suitable for larger community or species tanks with similarly sized, confident tank mates and ample visual barriers to break lines of sight.

Diet

Omnivorous species that accepts quality flakes or micro pellets, supplemented with frozen or live foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp. Feeding should be varied and controlled to prevent overfeeding and maintain good body condition.

Tank Size and Environment

A tank footprint that offers good swimming space along with shaded areas and retreat zones is important for Flying Fox True (Siamensis) Freshwater Shark. Substrate and d?cor can be selected to complement its natural habitat, using darker substrates and structured hardscape where appropriate. The aquarium should be securely covered, as many species are capable of jumping when startled.
